I discovered this when i tried to set my status message to “Benazir Bhutto killed..” it just didn’t reflect. Then i tried Pidgin’s default away message “I’m not here right now” didn’t work.. But surprisingly “I’m not here right away” works.. Harsh confirmed the behavior. Seems as if yahoo is blocking some words such as “now” and “Bhutto” in various combinations in a sentence (”now” and “Bhutto” do work as status messages). At first i though it was a problem with pidgin. But then Ankur confirmed that these words were not working with even the windows yahoo messenger client! I really don’t know what yahoo is trying to achieve but its really irritating ![]()
yes,
double check that..
“Benazir Bhutto killed”
status message is not working..
but on gtalk its working fine..
Tarun, even “Im not here right now” doesn’t work! I could understand if they were blocking Bhutto cause of political reasons, but even this?
Ran the test, Yahoo allowing me to write “Lets F*ck Dr. Manmohon Sign” but not the one you have
so strange, monitor just few and let more abusive ones go.. !! hmm..
Choto Cheeta, Welcome to my blog
Yes, its really strange and weird.. I Almost pulled all my hair out getting to the bottom of this!
Chillax guys…no need to pull your hair for such a small thing
Rohit, Welcome
Heh.. its just soooooooooo irritating!
Huh? I could keep the status message as “Benazir Bhutto Killed!” What are you guys saying?
^^ The case and everything matters.. Just try if you can set it to “Im not here right now” Copy paste
Did any one tried to read their Privacy policy for the status messege ?? Does it give them tje right to filter and if it does then what are the criteria for the filtering ??
Choto, Its not really censoring, its some kind of glitch in their system.
From the little R&D I did under Kalpik’s “guidance”
I feel it is (auto-correct) bug and not censorship. If it is censorship, they would just ban/modify the message whether it is in lower case or upper case.
However, the fact remains that there is some (buggy) code written to check the status messages.
@ Choto Cheeta: Chill man!
Privacy policies are for sensitive private things. What’s so private or sensitive about a status message?
Just a shocker today! I couldn’t keep status message of my choice. I tried the following:
- Happy New Year
- Happy New Yr
- Happy New Year to all
- Happy New Year to all!
- Happy New Year 2008
Ashish, now you know how irritating it is
Thts strange….Wht can b the poss reason?
Yahoo Messenger is censoring googles sites, and it does not allow links to google owned sites (for example to picasaweb) in status messages. The other, seemingly random censorship is only to divert people’s attention from the real thing. This is a ususal practice by Yahoo. Did you forget that the GMail invites were automatically deleted from Yahoo Mail (they did not appear even in the Spam folder)? I advice all of you to switch to GTalk.
Why is there a censor still on YOUR blog? Post something!
